SenTAG pool safety was originally developed over 5 years to transform personal safety in Swimming pools. A group of developers had previously investigated camera and image based technologies as a potential technology to exploit but rejected them.
The project originators came to believe that the approach was ultimately too limited for general application and could not deal with many typical scenarios encountered.
The group of consultants worked with a panel of operators and pool specialists and developed a specification based on “distributed” processing power and decision making using wristbands. The wristband model did rely on some very innovative electronics and signal processing and the company formed received UK government support in the early stages.
By 2008 they had a small number of successful “pilot” installations and test sites in the UK and significantly there was a great deal of interest throughout Europe and beyond. Particularly where the SenTAG security wristband could interface with RFID based functions allowing a common wristband to be used with electronic lockers, access control systems etc.
However the economic climate of the last period of time in UK made it very difficult to raise the necessary investment needed to put SenTAG into full production. In the summer of 2009 the project was taken over by SweTAG AB, Stockholm, Sweden and the system is now out on the market.
Our mission with The SenTAG Pool Safety System is to provide a reliable technical tool for lifeguards around the world in their daily work with pool surveillence.
