SenTAG is a highly sophisticated automatic drowning detection, drowning protection and swimming pool safety system. Drowning and serious pool incidents are mostly avoidable with good practice plus appropriate technology. Poolside supervision is well proven but humans are fallible and occasionally fail to notice developing incidents before they become serious. However if supervisors can be prompted to investigate early by timely alerts virtually all ‘missed’ incidents can be avoided. SenTAG is an appropriate and practical technology, complimenting good practice and gives bathers, lifeguards and operators a valuable extra level of security. The original project was called ‘swimtag’ during development. When first publically announced the name was changed from swimtag to SenTAG as the underlying technology has applications beyond swimming pools. However SenTAG is primarily an automatic drowning protection system. While there are other drowning protection and drowning detection technologies SenTAG claims to offer the earliest possible automatic drowning protection and drowning detection capability coupled to exceptional detection certainty Drowning as a process is complex but most suspicious circumstances can quickly and reliably be bought to the attention of a poolside lifeguard for checking by the SenTAG system. Much of the key technology is subject to international patent applications. The SenTAG system employs a personally worn wristband that constantly monitors the location, depth and motion of the bather. If its predetermined rule set is broken the wristband transmits.
